Thursday 30 June 2016

In the "High Coast". Feels a bit like the Lakes. Here at Fjärdbotten.

Gralian at Lustholmen. H and J L. Had a memorable evening on board after grilling together. Interior as in the 30's. Ships library as well.

Tuesday 28 June 2016

A small bay east of Sundsvall. Early morning sea fog.

Saturday 25 June 2016

What a town center . After fire at beginning of 19 th. centuary stone replaced wood.
The approach to Sundsvall . To get the through traffic out of town build a wee bridge (38 m clearance ).

Friday 24 June 2016

Midsummer in Sweden: families gather, trad. music, young girls with garlands of wild flowers. Still in Skatan. Old fishing village now well up market.
Only fly in ointment, large gin palace who feels need to show off his ghetto blaster. Hopefully the kids go to bed before long!
Tomorrow Sundsvall and then the "Höga Kusten" before across to the "Quark" and the Finnish coast.

Thursday 23 June 2016

On the eve of the UK possibly setting sail westward, an item for those south of the Channel following our driftings:

The Kings Singers:
Into the sheltered bay of Skatan! More fine fish. Outside the mist continues, water temperature about 14 deg. C.

Heading north in thick mist. Appropriate for today.

Wednesday 22 June 2016

The road winds on through the forest. Wooden houses hidden away. Elk and bears also hidden, skipper sceptical: better to stay on board and keep out of forest. "If you go down to the woods tonight...".
Iron Age burial mounds bear witness to long tradition of habitation.

Or the local town. Those of you who have travelled in the states will probably recognise the style from else where. We were driven here by the harbour lady. Most helpful.

The boathouse style:

Stayed put today so here are a few impressions:

Tuesday 21 June 2016

Mellanfjärden. Small fishing village waiting for midsummer madness. Delectable smoked salmon for supper. Restaurant open. Passage planning for tomorrow not primarily determined by wind forecast.

Monday 20 June 2016

Evening on Storjungfrun

Today up to Höllick. 30 sm further north. Less than a week till midsummer and everything very quiet.
Three days till the 23.6.16.

A great reach up to Storjungfrun. Look carefully at the fenders!

Friday 45 sm in the mist up to Huseliiharen. Saturday a few spares from Gävle by bike then recover from downpour in clubhouse restaurant.

Wednesday 15 June 2016

You will all recognise Öregrund, Northerlies tomorrow but then on towards Gävle. Hoping to make the "High Coast" ( between Härnösand and Örnsköldsvik) by start of July and spend a fortnight there. Beate, try www.rome2rio.com for connections. But we can still get storm bound!

Tuesday 14 June 2016

Grisslehamn , fishing harbour on the east.

Grisslehamn, west harbour, a bit sleepy, dominated by the salmon fraternity at the moment.

Heading north to Grisslehamn via the Väddö canal. Not a lot of space so glad we are not yet in high season.

Monday 13 June 2016

A small memorial to the 30.000 who fled the Baltic states in 1944 to Sweden. One cannot help thinking of present issues.

Sunday 12 June 2016

Still in Norrtälje. Southerly winds from Monday so off for the north.

Wednesday 8 June 2016

Still idle in Norrtälje, waiting for Northerlies to swing round. Meanwhile what I take to be sales office for development in place of silos has been floated in!

Tuesday 7 June 2016

The Pythagoras machine factory.

Cannot leave Nytallje until the silos fall. All done with a big steel ball. Skilled work.

Sunday 5 June 2016

A moment of weakness.

Over to Nortallje. Nibbling away at history.

Saturday 4 June 2016

Early morning in Blidö.

As a warning to you all, a wee tick took a fancy to the skipper on Arholma. The tick is no more, updates later if the skipper does not survive.
Thursday: up to Blidö.
Friday on to Arholma.
Saturday: tour of Arholma gun battery with reflections on Cold War and Swedish neutrality.
Sunday: run back down to Lidö, s-jib in N6. Lidö Värdshus catering for a wedding so celebrated events on Zansibar on board with cheese and wine. Meanwhile a washing machine was playing up in Geneva...
